I bought a string of the multi-colored lights as a gift and loved them so much I bought myself a set. They are definitely pricey but the string is long with a lot of lights and absolutely wonderfully bright. The various functions let you choose if you want just two colors to light steadily or let the entire string flash, run, or slow fade. I had them out for about 4 months last fall and winter and so far November through today (April) this winter, and can tell you that even on very low sun days they will light for an hour or two. With a full charge they have actually lasted until the next morning. Also, the lead between the battery and the start of the lights is several feet long so you can recharge in the sun and still light up a shady area around 3'-4' away. As a reviewer has noted, the batteries can't be removed which is clearly a problem in areas with a lot of clouds, especially in the winter. That's not a particular problem in Boise. Assuming they make it through at least another two long winters, I'll be perfectly satisfied.

For the price, I'm hoping for many years of service out of this solar light string. I'm thinking that 5 years will justify the price. We've had this for about 4 months and it comes on every night just as advertised.
My only complaint is the 6000K color. NOW, they have a 3,000K warm white set. They didn't when I bought. So I bought another set of "Warm White". They're perfect in every way. I'll review them separately.

These solar string lights are unique in that the string can separate from the base. The base can then be charged in the sun in a different location when needed.
MAJOR Con:
The product would be good IF the advertised 3 NimH batteries it requires were REMOVABLE / Replaceable. BUT they ARE NOT, they are housed/ hard wired into the unit- Very Very MISLEADING since most ALL Nimh battery powered devices allow the user to replace and remove the batteries at their own discretion!
Hard wiring the batteries gives the consumer NO real way to manually power= replace/ recharge the batteries, ESPECIALLY needed on cloudy days.
There is NO benefit with this unit having NimH batteries. At this price point and lack of battery functionality, you'd be better off with a lithium batttery powered unit, that runs longer. When sun illumination is low (i.e., E. coast winter season) seek a removable NimH device. Lithium would be a last resort for solely summer use or in a year-round sunny place.
IF you care about getting good illumination even on cloudy days, DO NOT get solar units with batteries permanently hard wired into the unit. ASK the seller, CAN THE BATTERIES be easily (REMOVED)- beware some sellers try to avoid this important point. Good luck...
